NATO can’t admit Ukraine defeat, still dreams of conquering Russia

On Saturday 7 September activists from International Ukraine Anti Fascist Solidarity will be meeting at the National Gaza march to make the links between the wars waged by NATO imperialism in Gaza, Ukraine and Yemen.

While the terrible war in Ukraine drags on with the Ukrainian army facing collapse and past sell-by-date president Zelensky fantasises about a peace deal which keeps the whole of Ukraine and Crimea where the fascist Banderites are free to run amok, his backers in London and Washington cling to the dream of defeating the Russian Federation and replacing president Putin with one of their own hand-picked Russian fascists.

In 2014-15 the volunteer People’s Militias from Donetsk and Lugansk inflicted a crushing defeat on the far larger Ukrainian Aimed Forces with extremely limited support from Moscow. The UAF was riddled with corruption and demoralisation and as in so many imperialist wars (Afghanistan comes to mind!) did not want to fight.

But since 2002 Russia and its allied forces from Donetsk and Lugansk have been facing the entire might of NATO. While talking peace in Minsk, Paris and Berlin, the NATO countries were building, arming and training a whole new army to retake the Donbas People’s Republics.

NATO has thrown everything but the kitchen sink, and over $200 billion, into the war, after wrecking the Russia-Ukraine peace deal in March 2022. That is why the war has continued for so long, and well over 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died.

After the US State Department denied any role in the Ukrainian attack on Kursk Oblast, according to the Times newspaper the director of the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Vice Admiral Frank Whitworth, admitted on 29 August that the US and Britain “have provided Ukraine with satellite imagery and other information” on Kursk Region.

Meanwhile Zelensky continues to ramp up pressure to be allowed to use NATO missiles for long range strikes within Russia. These missiles are in fact operated by NATO personnel, require permission from NATO commanders, and can only be used with NATO satellite guidance.

WE STILL FACE THE POSSIBILITY OF A DIRECT CONFLICT BETWEEN NATO AND RUSSIA, A NEW WORLD WAR.

In recent decades the UK and US and their NATO allies have terrorised and killed millions of people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Ukraine, using the reactionary jihadist and fascist (Benderite) gangs they have created, armed and financed, and they continue to support Israel in every way possible in its relentless ten month genocide against the people of Gaza.

This is what the well-groomed political leaders of NATO states call “the international rules-based order”.

We are now seeing a global transformation in which a handful of rich and powerful countries are desperately trying to preserve their world domination, regardless of the cost in human lives, while only three states (not including tiny islands) in Asia, Africa and Latin America have joined the West’s sanctions regime against the Russian Federation. The Global South is standing up and refusing to bow to Western bullying and pressure.

Only four major states in Africa, Asia and Latin America support the sanctions against Russia or send weapons to Ukraine. Our leaders in Britain represent the minority of rich, powerful countries who have dominated the world since 1945, but the writing is on the wall for them, and we are on the side with the global majority.

We will be calling on the British government to stop sending weapons, trainers and “advisors” to Israel and Ukraine; to stop bombing Yemen; for genuine negotiations for ceasefires in Israel, Ukraine and Yemen: and for an end to supporting Apartheid in Israel and fascist repression in Ukraine.
