This Wednesday, when each country gives its vote, it will not only be taking a position on Cuba’s resolution, but also on the fate of all nations.
October could well be called the month of truth, in which the masks fall. Every year, when the calendar reaches its tenth page, Cuba becomes a kind of serum against lies. In 2026 the concentration of “medicine” is abundant, in order to counteract the “disease” that plagues the White House.
On October 27, Cuba arrives at the UN General Assembly with a report full of figures that have increased rapidly. And more than numbers, it arrives with painful stories that are the daily life of a people who refuse to bow down.
Medical teams that perform complex operations with rechargeable lamps, children and young people who study in the dark, families who seek the daily snack because the refrigerator is not cold… The blockade has many names and faces.
It is not propaganda, as it has been misnamed from Washington. It is a palpable reality that inhabits every home in the Caribbean nation: that it enters without knocking on the door, crosses the unlit television in the living room, arrives in the kitchen plagued by the smell of coal, settles in the sinks without water, in the rooms in darkness. And it also crosses borders, in its most extraterritorial expression.
It is a declared persecution. They no longer even deny it. This is demonstrated by documents recently presented by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
Knowing that they cannot destroy the island from within, they have also made a point of blackmailing anyone who has any solidarity or commercial link with it. They resort unscrupulously to their technological, military, and commercial power to remind or warn governments what could happen to them if their vote is a “yes” vote in favor of ending the blockade.
They have declared that Cuba is a threat, but they are the ones who coerce, pressure, intimidate…
When the land of Martí presents its report at the United Nations, this time it will have gone through an additional debate held in July, in which the voices of many countries were not silenced. It will have had the record of the report of the Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures, which the Human Rights Council of that multilateral organization was able to know. Cuba did not say it, the UN verified it in all crudeness.
There was also recently a United Nations Cuban Civil Society Forum against the blockade, in which the old siege was classified as “the cruelest and most ruthless exercise of reconcentration of an entire population.” And a public parliamentary hearing was held at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology, because yes, the effects of this genocidal policy on Public Health are very sensitive.
So who is the liar? If Washington’s target is the Cuban government, why is the survival of the people at stake?
At the UN, this Wednesday, when each country gives its vote, it will not only be taking a position on Cuba’s resolution, but also on the fate of all nations.
