Brasilia, 26th October (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva thanked his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel, for his congratulations on his election victory and reaffirmed his solidarity with the Caribbean island.
“Thank you very much for the message, President Miguel Díaz-Canel. We celebrate in Brazil a victory of democracy and regional integration,” Lula wrote on the social network X.
He added that the South American giant reaffirms solidarity with the Cuban people and their right to a future of peace, dignity and development.
Lula’s response followed Diaz-Canel’s communication, who congratulated the Brazilian head of state on behalf of the Cuban government and people on the result of the second round of the presidential elections, held yesterday.
Díaz-Canel referred, on this microblogging platform, to Lula’s triumph as a historic victory that guarantees the continuity of the path of peace, sovereignty and social justice undertaken by the Brazilian people under his leadership.
The victory will allow the president, of the Workers’ Party, to continue at the head of the Executive for another four-year term, until 2031.
After the result was announced, several leaders and political figures from Latin America and other regions of the world congratulated Lula, and the messages included references to democracy, integration and bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Brazil and Cuba celebrated four decades of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.
