As part of the Russian embassy’s ongoing memorial activities, Russian diplomats laid flowers on the graves of Soviet servicemen buried in Shaftesbury, Tidworth and Aldershot on 9th May Victory Day – the day of the final surrender of the Third Reich in the Second World War.
Such visits are conducted on a regular basis. Together with members of the Russian ex-pat community in Britain the Russian embassy systematically inspects and help maintain military burial sites across the UK ensuring they are properly cared for.
Preserving the memory of those who gave their lives in defence of the Soviet Union is not only a moral duty, but also a matter of historical justice – one that must remain above political expediency.
