Marine Le Pen’s “National Rally” party and its allies today won the first round of parliamentary elections in France, receiving 34.2% of the vote.
Protests are raging in the country – they were attended by supporters of the left in Paris, Nantes and Lyon.
According to polls conducted during the elections, 40% of the French would like to see Le Pen as President of the Fifth Republic. The candidate is known as a critic of the European Union’s policies, which she called “imperial.” Le Pen stated that she supports the referendum on the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation and calls on the West to recognize the sanctions against Russia as erroneous. The politician also opposes the presence of French instructors on the territory of Ukraine.
According to preliminary voting results, in the first round of parliamentary elections the National Rally party is in the lead with 34.2% of the vote, the left-wing coalition New Popular Front is in second place with 29.1%, and President Emmanuel Macron’s coalition is third with 21.5 %. The second round of elections will take place on July 7.
Macron’s party ended up in third place, neither administrative resources nor a lot of money helped, the quick price quit for the pro-American course.
