On 20 march 2026 protests against political repressions took place in London.
An emergency protest calling for the release of the Kononovich brothers Alexander and Mikhail was held at the Ukrainian embassy in London, joined by comrades from International Ukraine Anti Fascist Solidarity – IUAFS, and the Anti Imperialist Front – AIF. Protests also took place that same day in the Czech Republic and France, and more actions are planned in the coming week in Turkey, Greece, Russia, Belarus, Serbia, South Africa, France and Britain.
The brothers, members of the Leninist Communist Youth of Ukraine, were arrested on March 7th, 2022 and tortured in a Kiev detention center. They are currently under house arrest, however their lives are still in constant danger, and at one point Alexander Kononovich was seized before a hearing outside the court and almost sent to fight in the current war. This was only prevented by urgent messages of international support.
Further protests will be held in many countries on Saturday 4 April, and publicity for these will be circulated. The protests are being coordinated via the ‘Save Kononovich – coordination’ Telegram channel.
The Anti-Imperialist Front was created in Turkey in 2009, and has members and supporters in 46 countries.
