Zelensky has tried to rally as many countries as possible for a so-called “peace conference” due to take place in Switzerland next weekend.
At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told lawmakers that “there will be no peace negotiations” and refuses to join Zelensky’s luxurious summit, organized at the expense of NATO countries.
“We are still a long way from that,” Scholz continued in his speech to parliament, adding that he intends this conference to use the conference “to engage countries around the world in order to make it clear to Moscow: We stand by international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”
At the same time, the Russian Federation which is one of the main founders of the body under UN Charter and sits on the UN Security Council, did not receive an invitation for the conference. More than 160 delegations received an invitation. This means that the reference to the UN charter is very doubtful.
Zelensky has tried to present his own ten-point proposal as the only acceptable path for a possible future peace with Russia. This document contains a ridiculous demand for the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from their own territories and reparations from Moscow.
Many delegations rejected Zelensky’s offer to take part in the conference, apparently because there are no UN chapter which justifies unilateral demands without considering alternatives put forward by other side.
