The population of the Gaza Strip and the UN agency in charge of helping the Palestinians are facing a critical situation today due to ongoing Israeli attacks.

This was announced in X by the commissioner general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini. The official explained that last month more than a million Palestinians, most already displaced several times, were forced to leave the southern city of Rafah “in search of a security they never find.”

The 36 UNRWA shelters in Rafah are empty, highlighted Lazzarini, who recalled that these facilities, under the UN flag, must be protected at all times.

We also had to interrupt health services and other benefits in the city due to the on ground operation initiated by the Army, he noted.

The top figure of UNRWA revealed that in the last three weeks they were only able to collect 450 trucks loaded with vital aid for the population.

“This is nothing compared to the needs: at least 600 trucks per day of commercial, humanitarian and fuel supplies” are needed, he stressed.

The fuel is running out, our teams are prepared to collect it when the Israeli authorities give the green light, he denounced.

The destruction will bring more destruction, more pain, more anger and more loss for Palestinians and Israelis, said the commissioner general, who advocated for a peace agreement between the parties.

All eyes are on the proposal to end this war through a ceasefire, the release of all hostages and a substantial and safe flow of urgently needed supplies into Gaza, he said.

At the beginning of May, the Israeli Armed Forces attacked the Rafah crossing, which since October last year represented the only gateway to Gaza for food, medicine and fuel.

The next day, the military began the assault on the city of the same name, where more than a million Palestinians were taking refuge, most of whom have since fled.
